Bohol to Camiguin: The Complete Route via Cagayan de Oro

TL;DR

There's no direct Bohol–Camiguin ferry. The route goes: ferry from Tagbilaran to Cagayan de Oro (~4–5 hrs), overland transfer to Balingoan port (~1.5 hrs), then a short ferry to Camiguin (~1 hr). It's a full-day journey. Book through us and every leg is coordinated — one ticket, one confirmation.

Why This Route Needs Coordination

Camiguin is a small volcanic island off the north coast of Mindanao. There's no ferry operator running a direct service from Bohol — the geography doesn't support it. Instead, you route through Cagayan de Oro (CDO) on mainland Mindanao, then drive north to Balingoan port, and take a short crossing to Camiguin.

Three separate legs, two different vehicle types, and timing that needs to sync. This is the route where most DIY travellers come unstuck — miss the overland connection and you're stuck overnight in Balingoan, which is not where you want to be stuck.

The Route, Step by Step

Leg 1: Tagbilaran → Cagayan de Oro

Fast ferry from Tagbilaran port, Bohol to CDO port. Trans-Asia or Cokaliong operate this route, with OceanJet running some schedules.

~4–5 hours · From ₱1,100 · 1–2 daily departures

Leg 2: CDO → Balingoan Port (overland)

Private vehicle or van from CDO port to Balingoan ferry terminal on the north coast. This is a ~90km drive through Mindanao.

~1.5 hours · Included in transfer package

Leg 3: Balingoan → Camiguin

RORO ferry or fast craft from Balingoan to Benoni port, Camiguin. Multiple daily sailings — the last one typically around 5 PM.

~1 hour · From ₱250 · Ferries every 1–2 hours

Timing That Works

Take the earliest morning ferry from Tagbilaran. If you depart at 5:00–6:00 AM, you'll arrive in CDO around 10:00–11:00 AM, reach Balingoan by 12:30 PM, and catch an early afternoon ferry to Camiguin. You'll be checked in at your hotel by mid-afternoon.

Later departures from Bohol are risky. The CDO→Balingoan drive has no margin for traffic delays, and missing the last Camiguin ferry means an unplanned night in Balingoan.

The Overnight Option

If you'd rather not do the full journey in one day, you can overnight in CDO. It's a proper city with good hotels and food — worth a night if you're not in a rush. We can split the booking: Day 1 gets you to CDO with a hotel, Day 2 picks up with the Balingoan transfer and Camiguin ferry.

Frequently Asked

Is Camiguin safe for tourists?

Yes. Camiguin is one of the friendliest islands in the Philippines. It's small, quiet, and tourist-friendly. The main town (Mambajao) has ATMs, pharmacies, and decent mobile signal.

Can I do this route in reverse (Camiguin to Bohol)?

Yes. Same legs in reverse — Camiguin to Balingoan, drive to CDO, ferry to Tagbilaran. We handle both directions with the same coordinated approach.

How long should I stay in Camiguin?

At least 3 nights to see the highlights: White Island, the sunken cemetery, hot springs, and Katibawasan Falls. A week is ideal if you want to hike Mt. Hibok-Hibok or explore at a slower pace.
