How to Get from Bohol to Siquijor (via Dumaguete)

TL;DR

There's no direct Bohol-to-Siquijor ferry. You need to connect through Dumaguete: ferry from Tagbilaran to Dumaguete (~2 hrs), then taxi across Dumaguete port to the Siquijor terminal, then a second ferry to Siquijor (~1 hr). Total journey: 4–5 hours. Book through us and we coordinate the whole thing — one ticket, no gaps.

Why There's No Direct Ferry

Bohol and Siquijor sit on opposite sides of Negros Oriental. No operator runs a direct crossing because the demand doesn't justify the fuel. Every traveller making this journey connects through Dumaguete — the port city on Negros Island that sits neatly between the two.

The good news: the connection is well-worn and predictable. Thousands of travellers do it every month. The tricky part is coordinating the two ferries and the land transfer in between — which is exactly what we handle.

The Route, Step by Step

Leg 1: Tagbilaran → Dumaguete

Fast ferry (OceanJet or Cokaliong) from Tagbilaran port, Bohol to Dumaguete port, Negros Oriental.

~2 hours · From ₱800 · Multiple daily departures

Transfer: Dumaguete Port Swap

Dumaguete has two separate terminals. You arrive at the main port and need to get to the Siquijor ferry terminal (about 10–15 minutes by taxi or tricycle). If you've booked through us, a driver meets you at arrivals and takes you across.

~15 minutes · Included in transfer package

Leg 2: Dumaguete → Siquijor

Fast ferry or RORO from Dumaguete to Siquijor port (usually Larena or Siquijor town, depending on operator).

~1 hour · From ₱250 · Several daily sailings

Timing That Works

The key to a smooth connection is catching the morning ferry from Tagbilaran. Here's why: if you take the 6:00 or 7:00 AM OceanJet, you arrive in Dumaguete around 8:00–9:00 AM, giving you comfortable time for the port transfer and a late-morning Siquijor ferry.

Afternoon connections work but leave less margin. If the first ferry runs late or there's a queue at the Siquijor terminal, you could miss the last sailing — and Siquijor's options after 4 PM get thin.

What Can Go Wrong (and How We Handle It)

The two risks on this route are a delayed first ferry and a missed connection in Dumaguete. Here's how we deal with them:

This is the route where having a local team on the ground makes the biggest difference. DIY travellers regularly get stuck in Dumaguete for hours because they didn't know about the port swap or mistimed their connection.

Frequently Asked

Can I do this route in reverse (Siquijor to Bohol)?

Yes, same connection in reverse. Take the morning ferry from Siquijor to Dumaguete, then connect to the Tagbilaran ferry. We handle both directions.

Should I overnight in Dumaguete?

Not necessary if you time it right. The morning connection gives you a smooth same-day journey. But if you want to explore Dumaguete (it's worth a night), we can split the booking across two days.

How much luggage can I bring?

Fast ferries allow one checked bag (up to 20kg) and a carry-on. If you're travelling heavy, let us know and we'll make sure the transfer vehicle has space.
